Data Replication Process in SAP Central Finance

What is Data Replication in SAP Central Finance?

SAP LT Replication server used as the main tool for data replication of Financial postings from SAP as from Non-SAP system.

LT server used for the following-

  1. Initial Load
  2. Ongoing replication

Initial Load

The initial load transfers existing accounting documents or balances into the central Finance system.

Production Replication Post-Go-Live

The SAP LT Replication server collects the data written into the database in the source systems. It then feeds this data into the corresponding accounting interface in Central Finance.

SAP LT Replication Server read to specific tables in the source systems and when we make relevant changes to these tables, it knows what data to capture. Then further it hands it over to the Central Finance accounting interface.

After going through the business mapping and error handling process, the system posts this data to Central Finance and records it in the Universal Journal.

Data Replication Scenarios

The system supports the following replication scenarios-

The replication of cost objects is achieved by the cost object replication framework. This functionality allows the automated creation of short-lived objects such as orders from source systems to central Finance.

Cost Object Data Replication Scenarios

The cost object replication framework can map the following scenarios-

  • Production order to product cost collector (N:1)
  • Product Cost Collector to product cost collector (1:1)
  • Internal Order to Internal Order
  • Service order to service order
  • Quality Management order to QM Order
  • Production Order to Internal Order
  • QM order to Internal Order
  • Process order to Internal order

Business Mapping

Financial Postings replicated to Central Finance include master data elements that you can map to target values in Central Finance.

The Master Data must be in place before you start triggering postings for transactional data. This is because the system will validate the postings against this master data.

In other words, the consultant must define the relationship between a master data ID or code used in the source system and the corresponding ID or code used in the Central Finance system for each object.

Mapping on MDG Foundation

Central Finance provides for business mapping based on standard SAP MDG foundation capabilities. However, you neither need to set up the SAP MDG’s master data governance process nor require is an extra SAP MDG license for this standard mapping.

Whether you use full SAP MDG functionality for master data consolidation or governance or not, several different kinds of mapping include the following-

  1. Mapping for business object identifiers such as customer IDs, vendor IDS, or material IDs using SAP MDG key mapping functions
  2. Mapping for codes such as company codes, business areas, etc. using SAP MDG value mapping functions
  3. Mapping for short-lived objects for example a maintenance order or an internal order

In addition, we can also define for each object, the desired mapping action when replicating documents.

Standard Mapping Actions in Data Replication

The following standard mapping actions are available in the system.

  1. Keep the Data – The system retains the field value coming from the source system. It is a default option if the configuration is not changed for an object and source system combination.
  2. Mapping obligatory– A consultant must map the field values, if there is no mapping for a particular field value, you see an error.
  3. Clear the data – Clear the field value coming from the source system.
  4. Map, if possible– If a mapping has been maintained for an incoming field value, the system will use the mapped value in Central Finance. If no mapping exists, Central Finance will retain the incoming value from the source.
